What are Nordmann Trees?

The Nordmann species of trees is considered to be one of the most popular selections when it comes to Christmas Trees.

There are many reasons for why this is the case, but the standout is the traditional appearance that they have. Possessing a great colour and consistent shape, it’s no surprise to see why the Nordmann tree has become the household choice.

Aside from looks, the Nordmann Tree comes in strongly for its other characteristics that make it durable for households and surviving the festive period. Nordmann Christmas Trees are known to have longer lasting periods for their needles, as well as being able to withstand heat that is common in households. As the festive period can last the month of December, having the ability to retain needles is very important to ensure your Christmas Tree keeps its stunning appearance for the duration.

How do you take care of a Nordmann Tree?

Once you have selected your tree and returned it to the location that you are going to set it up, we recommend cutting a thin slice of the bottom of the stump. Doing so will remove the wax covered base so that the tree can effectively consume the water that you place in your stand. It’s also important to make sure that you do this directly before you put the tree up and in the stand with water. Delaying this process will mean that the tree will only seal itself back-up, preventing it from absorbing the water correctly.

After the tree has been set up with water, make sure to keep an eye on the water levels in the stand for the first 24 hours, as it is more likely to soak up the water in this initial period. From then on, just make sure to keep topping up the water. If you’re tree had been netted for transport or delivery, chances are the branches will be facing upwards slightly. Leave the tree standing upright for the first 24 hours to allow the branches to drop down, making it easier for you to decorate the Nordmann Tree. Decorations will also help to level out the branches when they are on due to their weight.

In terms of general care, make sure to avoid placing your Nordmann Tree next to any fire or device that emits heat as this will cause the tree to dry out quicker and drop its needles, despite being one of the better performers when it comes to needle retention. If you can keep the room at a lower temperature too, even better.

Do Nordmann Trees drop their needles?

The honest answer is that all trees will drop some needles, however, the Nordmann Fir is one of, if not, the best type for retaining its needles. With good and simple care, your Nordmann tree will be looking great and healthy throughout the entirety of the Christmas period.
